Am I The Only One...

Am I the only one who thinks this is terribly selfish?

The world's oldest 'new mother' died at the age of 69. She gave birth to twins when she was 66 after lying to the in vitro clinic about her age. She was a single parent.

So now the twin 2 1/2 year olds are alone. She had planned to find herself a younger man to help raise them, but did not.

This just pisses me off. Giving birth is supposed to be an act of selflessness in my opinion, not selfishness. I know it could happen to any mother, but to give birth at 69, and as a single parent, just seems wrong to me.

The children are too young to really remember their mother when they grow up. I hope they find a wonderful new home.

Yes, I agree with you, what she did was totally selfish. Those poor children.... :(

That is pretty sad. I wonder if she even thought that decision through.

I saw that this morning too. I don't know how I feel, I just know that now those babies are alone in the world, and that's not fair.

Selfishness or selflessness, who knows how she thought to run it through.

I read that this morning too. At the time she said that her mother lived a long life and she expected the same. Ummm....ok.....

It breaks my heart to know that these babies are alone know. I just pray to God that they are able to keep them together.

I hope the children are able to be placed together, wherever they go.

I am with and was always with you on this one. I get upset when I hear about the hollywood celebrities that are having kids into their sixties( I am talking about the Dads here). I think to myself, how old are you going to be when this child is in high school? College? Married? Grandchildren? Will you be around to see all those things take place, I think it is very selfish.

Having children is nearly always motivated by selfishness. People want to expand their family, keep the family name alive, experience what it's like to be a parent-90% of the reasons people plan pregnancies to begin with are selfish....it's the parenting part that we need to make sure is about the children.

I do agree though that people having children when they're older is VERY selfish. There's more of a chance that you'll die before your kids are legal adults....and if you don't die you're going to stick your poor young adult child(ren) with the care of a deteriorating elderly person. It's really not fair.

I hope so too! I wish Yaya could take them. She's going to be such a wonderful mother.

Wow. I hadn't heard about this and yes....SO SELFISH! The thing that gets me is that it seems people are always trying to have everything without realizing there is a time and season designed for certain things, childbearing would be one of them! Wow. Poor little girls!

I'm surprised they would do invitro to someone at that age. Wow. Yes, very selfish ... especially to not have a plan. (Assuming she didn't.)

I agree! Just because you can have children does not mean you should! The children now will be raised without a mother or father... very sad

You are NOT the only one! She was totally selfish. I hope these twins find the most fantastic home with loving and deserving parents!

Wow...that's so sad for those children. If I didn't believe so strongly in heaven I'd be sad for the mother too...for missing out on the greatest joy of all -- watching your children grow up.

thanks for swinging by Today I Pray yesterday and leaving a hug. I definitely felt the love from my blogging buddies...and it helped make my day brighter. :)

That's terrible! Makes you wonder "what was she thinking". Or maybe that's the problem...she wasn't thinking. I do hope those babies have a good home.

i think a lot of people, because of what they've been through in life, will do desperate, selfish things to feel loved. it's a sad story all around.

Nope, I think it's incredibly selfish. It's just another symptom of the 'Me me me' society we live in.

Poor kids. :(

Very sad. But God gave her the children, so He must have known what He was doing!

Lots of people have babies for selfish reasons though. Truthfully, I almost think that having babies at all is totally selfish. I have one and I want like twenty more, LOL. They're so much fun. But really, life is hard, there is so much pain and suffering and worry, and bull crap. And having a baby provides a new view of the world to help us take wonder in small things. Totally selfish. I want little ones to cuddle. I want my guy to have brothers and sisters. I want to be taken care of in my old age. What kind of reasons are out there that aren't selfish?

Yeah--I read this in the paper and thought it was so sad...
