I heard this song this weekend & I really loved it. I've never heard of Curtis Stigers before, but the song suits my mood today. It's called, I Never Saw a Miracle.
My son Jack gets to see Alice In Chains next Friday, so that had me thinking of my favorite songs of theirs. It won't be the same since Layne Staley died years ago, but it still should be fun for Jack. I love grunge music.
From their amazing album, Jar Of Flies, are these two tracks. They are back to back on the album and I think should always be listened to that way. First Whale & Wasp.
Followed by Don't Follow, in my opinion their best song ever.
For today's MM song I chose possible the saddest song I know. The first line, "She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette", I think is pure genius & when it comes to the chorus watch out! "He put that bottle to his head & pulled the trigger." It gets me with goosebumps every time.
Here is Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley & Alison Krauss.
Play along and see what everyone else is up to on this Musical Monday at Bloggin With Amanda or Run DMT.
For this week's MM, the theme is mobile music. I've been watching some old-school Rat Pack Youtube video's this week, so I chose Sammy Davis, Jr., singing Mr. Bojangles since it's about dancing.
In watching Frank & Dean & Sammy, etc. I realize how much Justin Beiber, Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, and the rest really have to learn to be a real "entertainer".
I think it's sad that our kids will not know what real performers are like.
Head over & see Amanda at Bloggin' With Amanda to check out Musical Monday!
My good friend Diane is taking a little blogging break, so I'm gonna try to keep her Musical Monday meme alive. A power failure here kept me from getting this up earlier, but here goes!
I'm feeling a little "Angry American" today, so I thought a little Toby Keith was in order, "Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue". This is also to honor my "Sunday Friend" Jeannie & her soldier husband.
My beautiful friend Diane from Good Mourning, Glory! is taking a little bloggy break. Until she's up and running again I'm going to take over hosting duties for Musical Monday.
No theme this week, just show us what's moving you today.
This week I picked Waiting All My Life, by Rascal Flatts. My husband & I were lucky enough to get away this week and we had a chance to fall in love all over again. This song is one that we both love & I hope you enjoy it!
Well one of my best bloggy friend, who I have had the pleasure to meet in real life & who I love dearly usually has a feature called Musical Mondays. I'm talking about the beautiful Diane from Good Mourning Glory. Well today she didn't post a Musical Monday, but this song has been stuck in my head all week, so I'm sharing it with you anyway!
As you may have read I ended up in the University of Michigan hospital again last week. I really appreciate all of the love, prayers and good thoughts that came from Screaming Mimi readers!
All week this song has been going through my head, as I have felt like there was, in fact, a black rain cloud over my head. But then when I watched the video it made me smile, cause I'm a Winnie the Pooh fan from way back.
So here is my Musical Monday for the non-official Musical Monday.
**I so still have my book review & tote bag giveaway that I will put together today, along with updates to Oskar's Blog and also Mimi's Year In Books.
So after having a total brain fart on Musical Monday's for way too long, I'm back. Yes it's a little late in the day, but who could resist this category, Sing Like No One Is Listening! That is totally me!
Yes, I am an old 80's fool who fills my Musical Monday posts with greats like The Cure & The Smiths. What I may not have mentioned is that during my eyebrow-pierced-with-a-safety-pin, Doc-Marten-wearing days I also loved cheesy 80's pop. Yes I had to hide my silent love from my mosh-pit friends, but today I can proclaim it out loud without shame or embarassment.
An 80's pop proclivity does however, make a great format for embarassing your teenage sons in public! So here is one of my favorite sing into the hairbrush songs, Forever, by Kenny Loggins. And yes I do like 'em cheesy.
Check out Diane over at Good Mourning Gloryto find out what all the cool kids are singing out loud!
*There are 2 Musical Monday posts this week. This one I scheduled ahead and forgot about & the one below this, I did for the Coexist celebration, so go ahead and listen to both of them!
I just did an 80's post last week, but I came across this Culture Club song that I just love. I don't think it was released as a single so you might not have heard it. Check it out.
Boy George may be off the rails in real life, but he's got some great pipes.
Check out more Musical Monday with Diane and Jori.
This week's theme for Musical Monday is best & worst of the 80's.
For the worst I have to pick Get Out Of My Dreams, Get Into My Car, by Billy Ocean. Just terrible.
For the best is one that I'm sure I shared here before, but it is one of my favorite songs of all time, not just the 80's. The Cure, Just Like Heaven. Best. Song. Ever.
My first concert was The Blues Brothers! John Belushi as Joliet Jake & Dan Akroyd as Elwood Blues. I was about 12 years old & I begged my parents to take me to the concert for my birthday. We sat on the grass lawn of the Pine Knob Music theater & I couldn't figure out why everyone kept trying to pass my parents funny smelling cigarettes, lol!
I cannot even begin to describe the energy of John Belushi. He would cartwheel and backflip all the way back & forth across the stage. He had an oxygen tank at either end. Now I'm sure he was probably rocket-fueled by heavens only know what kind of drug.
The only video I can find to embed is the trailer from The Blues Brothers movie. If you watch to about a minute and a half in and keep watching, you'll seem them in action. I feel really lucky to have seen them live, they were great performers.
This is where I curse & say bad words because NOTHING will imbed from YouTube for me today. Here's the link if you're interested. Sorry!
I heard this on the radio this morning & was immediately transported to my glory days, the magical 80's. We didn't know we looked ridiculous, we just had fun!
With the passing of John Hughes, I have been hearing lots of great 80's songs from his movies on the radio. If you were in high school in the 80's, or even junior high, you can't hear "Don't You Forget About Me" without flashing back. He picked great songs for his movies and so many of them really represent the 80's.
This song didn't get as much radio play as many others as it wasn't a theme song, butI just love it. It's I Go Crazy, by Flesh For Lulu, off of the Some Kind of Wonderful soundtrack.
I couldn't find the radio version, so skip ahead to about the 1:20 mark if you want to hear the song with out the looong intro that this version has.
Michael Jackson passed this week. No matter what you may think about him, he was an amazing artist. This is my favorite MJ song. The video was shot with his then wife Lisa Marie Presley. Many people thought that marriage was a sham, but Lisa Marie's heartfelt wordsafter his passing make me believe she truly loved him.
The talented Ms. Mik, from So Dazzling Blogs has completed my makeover. I hope you love it as much as I do!
Ms. Mik has been great to work with & really "got" what I wanted early on, so if you're blog is feelin' a little dreary, check her out.
OK, someone showed me this video recently & I laughed until I peed myself. I wonder where those 80's video directors are now?
Remember I did not pick this because of song quality, but to give everyone a good Monday laugh. Watch it until the end, I dare you to sit through the whole thing, lol. At about the 1:20 point is when I start rolling.
During the month of May if you play along with Musical Monday you have the opportunity to win an Amazon or I-tunes gift card. Play along & let them know that Mimi sent you. Then if you refer people who mention you, you get extra chances to win the loot. Cool huh.
As a teen from the 80's there are about a million classics that spring to mind. I chose Tempted by Squeeze from the movie Reality Bites. There's tons of great songs on that soundtrack.
The real video is here but embedding is disabled, so here's one without the video.
I am a sassy, social anxiety riddled, bi-polar, mother of 2 twenty-something sons, 2 schnauzer's with a blog & 2 cats. I also have one amazing husband, and a chronic stomach condition that often makes me look pregnant (gastroparesis). I would like to learn how to live life passionately and with true meaning. Until then, anything goes!
