I'm Mad About Alice!

alice in wonderland Pictures, Images and Photos

I tooke my boyz, (note to self: You are 42 years old & unable to pull off using the term "boyz") John & Jack to see Alice In Wonderland today & LOVED it!

It just doesn't matter what they do, Tim Burton & Johnny Depp are perfect together. At the beginning of the move you would'nt guess it was Tim Burton, but once Alice drops down that rabbit hole all is perfect. Don't get me wrong, the beginning is visually beautiful and shows that Burton isn't a one trick pony.

There are a couple of moments where it's hard to understand what's being said, but I think that's to be expected since Lewis Carroll's original book made up plenty of words.

Anne Hathaway does a thing with her hands all the time that I found distracting, and there was something that happened at the end of the movie that almost wrecked it for me, but I don't want to say what it was and give anything away.

I do have to mention that we saw the movie in 3-D and wow has 3-D gotten better since the 80's. I've seen it on an I-max screen, but not at a regular theater in a really long time. It rocked!

If you're not a Burton/Depp fan this probably won't be your cup of tea, but if you are it's a great trip! (Speaking of a trip, any of you who may have done any "experimenting" in youth may have a flashback feeling, but in a good way!)

You really do have to like that style to appreciate his movies. Good warning! I will see it one of these days!

My girls totally want to see it. Actress was small Alice in the theater play of Alice in Wonderland, so how can I say no? :) Thanks for the review.

I think Lewis Carroll was high when he wrote that story. I wondered how the movie was. My 4 year old wants to go, but I think she is WAY too young. I might slip out and see it though.

I kept my son out of school to go see it yesterday - and I agree with much of what you said.
Boyd said the same thing as you that Burton really showed he could do more than just one thing - but when he makes it dark, it's just beautiful. I agree with the white witch hand thing - don't you think in some ways she was just as creepy as the queen of hearts? And yeah. The end thing? Seriously? The movie had some Labyrinth type of mood going on.

You know I love you, right?? Unconditionally, right??

OK, good.

I hate Tim Burton AND Johnny Depp. Immensely.

But this is America and you can be free to love what you love.

(blech!)

I'm really glad you are back to blogging anyway!

Tim Burton creeps me out. I haven't liked a single one of his movies. I think maybe you have to have an artsy mind or something. Maybe you just need to be a little 'off'? hahahaha Just kidding!!!!!!!!! He is soooo strange. Maybe I'm just too off to get his work. These movies creep me out with Depp, and I think he likes it that way. Oh, Johnny from 21 Jumpstreet, where did you go?

And, considering it's been 20 yrs since I had my experimenting & still occasionally have my flashbacks, the last thing I need is something to get me going. *shuddering*

Thanks for the review. :)

I do love Johnny! I don't know if my eight year old will like it but I think my daughter will. You are so right about the 3-D now. It's just amazing!
