Pomp, Circumstance & Anxiety

Well tomorrow is a big day for me. It's my commencement ceremony. I'll be graduating with my Associates Degree in Allied Health Technology. As many of you may know I suffer from social anxiety disorder, so long ceremony, sitting with strangers has made me a wreck. Full blown panic attacks for the last 2 days. *sigh*

My parents are hosting a dinner beforehand and my in-laws, & our friends - ourPastor & his wife will be there also. I'm not sure why I decided to "walk", except I think it's important for my teenage boys to see me take that walk & finish this properly.

Prayers & good wishes are appreciated! Hopefully I'll be back to my bloggy self & back to visiting all of your blogs, soon.

Pam, I'd be anxious too - no wonder you've been kind of quiet lately. But I send BIG kudos your way for going through with the ceremony! I agree that it's so important for your boys to watch you accept your diploma. They're bound to be soooo proud of their mom.

I just stumbled across your blog, and I am happy to meet you. I suffer from PTSD and I know exactly how you are feeling. Congratulations on your big day. You are making wonderful memories for your family tomorrow, and I wish you well. You can do it.

Cheers!
Sue.

CONGRATULATIONS!! I agree - I think it important to walk and show your sons what all the sacrifices were for. Hopefully you'll be ok during the ceremony - just remember you EARNED this and deserve it!

Oh Pam we are all so proud of you. I know the boys will be equally proud as you accept your diploma.

I don't know, so I'm only guessing, but maybe if you give yourself something to think about besides the people around, maybe that would help. Might sound silly but maybe a medium (or small) binder clip that you can put on your finger that would draw your attention there instead of the panic your feeling because of others around? Or some of those non-elastic hair tie things on your wrist that you can "pluck". As I said I don't know, just throwing it out there in the hope that it might help?

No matter what - we are all proud of you for 1) the accomplishment of graduating and 2) the steps you are taking to walk and receive your diploma and show your boys that you and they can accomplish ANYTHING they put their mind to!

Love ya!

My Aunt is Manic Depressive and has extreme social anxiety coupled with paranoia. She has had a hard time finding and keeping a job so I know how hard this can be. Deep breaths and finish line in sight! Good job!

Congratulations Mimi...that is so awesome!
How cool for you to walk. I think that is very brave. I didn't walk when I graduated college back in 1994. I regret that decision now.
Glad you are doing this.
Hugs and prayers,
Mimi

WAY TO GO, GIRL!!
I've been out of town so am just now seeing this post. Sure hope all went well with the ceremony. I have the same issues, and now I've been called to Jury Duty. Don't know what I'm gonna do. It's awful, isn't it?!
