My Baby Is In High School!!!

I know I'm lucky.  My boy is here with me.  I have several friends who have lost children, who would be overjoyed to be where I'm at today, so please forgive me if this is insensitive.

It's just while I watch my boys grown into amazing young men, every step towards independence takes them a step further away from me in some way.  Sometimes, like now just writing about it, the tears come as I remember my little men who always wanted to snuggle with momma.  When you love with all of your heart, all of your soul, and all of your being, letting go hurts so much, even while you rejoice in their accomplishments.

Anywhoo, here are some pictures of Jack's "clap in" yesterday. The freshmen come in alone at the beginning of the day and are clapped into the big gym by parents & loved ones. The drum line plays in front of them which makes it really cool.

Jack wasn't really interested my picture taking, but he's the one with the messenger bag.

My handsome Jack.  (Yes we can usually only see one eye!)

And one last shot of him walking away from me into his exciting new adventure.

I love you, baby Jack.

Awww I remember that day - well we don't have anything as cool as a clap-in but the first day of High School is a big deal.

Just wait - I hate to say this but it gets harder. My baby (Jenn) is at the Community College (working on her Associates Degree) and my first (Dan) is already a graduate AND working in that far away state of Virginia (VB to be exact). But I will say no matter how proud I am of both of them - I can NOT get past the idea that they were just born a few weeks ago!

I mean seriously HOW could I be the mother of two ADULT children?

Congrat Jack (and Mimi) on your next step in this wonderful thing we call LIFE.

OK...I'm crying now. I LOVE the idea of a clap-in. And yes - although we are proud of them, it does kinda hurt to see them become all we'd hoped for, doesn't it?

I am sure it was tough to see your last one go into high school. I can't even stand thinking about my first born going to middle next year.

that is so neat they do that for the freshman. I hope he enjoys his high school days. They can be fun. Thanks for always leaving such sweet comments..

What a cool tradition! Although I do have to wonder if the freshmen think it's cool. I know how they are embarassed by anything that points them out ;)

Take care my friend!
I hope all is well with you!

Love this tradition! It makes it so special for the kids!! Very cool!
And Jack looks terrific!!
WTG Jack!!
And I know how you feel about them growing up...my baby is 42 now! And has babies of his own! Sigh! I still remember all the snuggling!
Hugs

Jack will probably be the coolest dude in school. But not if his class mates read this blog. His mom calling him 'Baby Jack' won't do his image any favours ;-)

You can probably tell from my insensitive comment that I don't have children :-)

I felt like this when my son started first grade a few weeks ago. I can't imagine high school, but we will probably be there in a blink of the eye!!!

I've been through every emotion possible as I watched my sons grow up so I totally know what you are feeling. I sometimes wonder how the years went by so fast. Watching my Matthew (my baby) graduate from high school was a terribly emotional time for me. I don't think I stopped crying for at least a week and I still tear up when I think too long about it! There is just something different when you know it's your last child. You want to hold on for as long as you can! I lost my Michael when Matthew was 2. It was the most defining period of my life. Nothing in my world has ever been the same. I have learned to not "sweat" the small stuff and enjoy my sons every moment I can. I know how proud you are of your sons Pam. It shows in everything you do and say. They are incredibly blessed to have such a wonderful, loving mom!
